Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pelvic floor therapy is physical therapy that treats disorders that are often related to the pelvis. Several common examples include, but are not limited to: incontinence (urinary leakage), bowel issues, sexual pain or discomfort, low back pain, or musculoskeletal and nerve injuries. Treatments may include manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization, therapeutic exercise, relaxation and breathing techniques, as well as strengthening and biofeedback.

A pelvic floor therapist is an orthopedic therapist who has had special training in the anatomy and physiology of the pelvis and how its contents (internal organs) relate to posture and everyday functions. Therapy starts with a comprehensive evaluation that allows the therapist to understand your story, the specific problems you are experiencing, and get to the root of the problem. From there, a custom treatment program is established to help restore function where there has been a disruption in the pelvic floor and reconnect proper alignment to improve quality of life and return to physical activities

  • No, we do not take insurance. We provide the highest quality of care for our patients and see everyone privately, one-on-one. We are an out-of-network provider meaning payment is due at the time of service. However, our services would go towards your out-of-network benefits and you do have the option of submitting a claim for reimbursement after treatment. If you choose to do this, we will be happy to provide you with a detailed invoice and are willing to help guide you through the process. You are solely responsible for submitting your "superbill" and all corresponding claims to your insurance company.

  • We accept payment in full prior to the appointment via our online scheduling software or at the time of service. We accept all major credit cards, cash, FSA or HSA, and electronic payments via Venmo or Zelle.

  • There is a 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments. A charge of the full cost of the appointment will be incurred if a session is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

  • Our main objective is to keep you comfortable and at ease. Remember, we have been in your shoes before! The beginning of the visit will consist of an interview and discussion about why you are interested in therapy and what your goals and expectations are. You should be prepared to answer questions about your health history, bathroom habits, exercise and diet routine, and yes, even your sex life. We don't ask to be nosey or make you uncomfortable, but all of these components can be vital in developing your plan of care.

Next, a postural and musculoskeletal assessment will be performed- we aim to look at the body as a whole and watching you move can give us a ton of information! We will determine if an internal exam of your pelvic floor is necessary; should we decide this would be beneficial we will thoroughly explain, step-by-step, what you should expect. We will ask your consent prior to any portion of this exam and you have the right to change your mind at any time. You’re in charge… just let us know.

After our thorough assessment, we will collaborate to develop a treatment plan best suited for you.

  • You do not need a referral but if you have one, great! We are always happy to partner with your other healthcare providers in your care. If you have a physician referral, please bring it to your first appointment. If you do not have a referral, we are still able to see you for your initial evaluation and follow ups!

  • The internal exam is the best way for us to truly assess your pelvic anatomy and get a good baseline for your strength, control, and impairments. However, if you feel uncomfortable, you have every right to refuse this part of the assessment. If this is the case, we will still be able to develop an appropriate plan of care with all of the other information we have gathered.

  • Yes. Pregnancy can often lead to back pain, neck pain, groin pain, weakness, ligamentous laxity, misalignment and/or diastasis recti, just to name a few. We feel it is vital for women to seek out treatment for any of these conditions in order to make pregnancy more enjoyable! If you are pregnant, it is a good idea to be evaluated by a Women's Health specialist to advise on proper posture, optimal sleeping positions, exercise precautions and labor positions for delivery. We can also educate on a wide variety of topics to help ensure an easier and quicker postpartum recovery!

If an internal examination is warranted, we request a sign off from your OBGYN or midwife prior to examination.
